Have you ever heard the saying, “Never let a good crisis go to waste?"
It’s a classic tactic for the left. We’ve seen it countless times before. It doesn’t matter what the crisis is…it can always be re-packaged and used to their advantage.
By now, everyone is aware of the horrific collapse of the Champlain Towers in Surfside, Florida. As of this writing, there are 64 confirmed dead and 76 still missing. Last weekend, a controlled demolition brought down what was left standing after the initial collapse. Recovery efforts are ongoing.
The reason for the collapse isn’t fully known, but engineering reports from 2018 indicate “major structural damage extending to the concrete slab under the pool deck and the concrete beams and columns in the underground garage.”
But, here we go again. For Democrats and the left, it’s certainly a "good" crisis.
And they’re definitely not wasting it.
What could possibly be gained from a tragic, engineering debacle of this magnitude?
Plain and simple--it’s an opportunity to hype climate change and tout the multi-trillion dollar “infrastructure” bill. (Check out this link to my last post to see a bit more about this wish-list legislation: www.thesteadypatriot.com/post/what-s-the-magic-word).
President Biden was here in Florida last week to tour the Surfside site, extend condolences and meet with our governor, Ron DeSantis. Biden was asked by a reporter about the cause of the building collapse. His response was right out of the left’s crisis playbook and he didn’t miss calling an audible on the climate change agenda. In his response to the question, Biden said, “There are all kinds of discussions about whether or not they thought that water level rising — what impact it had. And interesting to me — I didn’t raise it — but how many of the survivors and how many of the families talked about the impact of global warming.”
Biden’s Energy Secretary, Jennifer Granholm, then went on CNN to talk about the condo collapse. She used the tragedy, as well, to shill for the multi-trillion-dollar infrastructure bill making its way through Congress. She said, “Obviously, we don’t know fully, but we do know that the seas are rising. We know that we’re losing inches and inches of beaches, not just in Florida but all around. We’ll have to wait to see what the analysis is for this building, but the issue about resiliency and making sure we adapt to this changing climate, that’s going to mean levees need to be built, sea walls need to be built, infrastructure needs to be built.”
“There’s so much investment that we need to do to protect ourselves from climate change but also to address it and mitigate it,” she continued. “Hopefully these infrastructure bills, when taken together, will make a huge step and allow America to lead again.” (Emphasis added.)
The Democrats and progressive left never let any “good” crisis go to waste to push for legislation to advance their radical agenda.
If there’s a mass shooting, they demand legislation for more gun control. But yet, no one talks about the fact that 100 people were shot in Chicago over the 4th of July weekend. This Democrat-run city has some of the most restrictive gun control laws on the books. So, violence in Chicago doesn’t fit their definition of a “good” crisis.
Naturally-occurring weather phenomena DOES fit their definition, though.
According to the left, If there’s a “polar vortex” (traditionally known as a “cold snap”), or a “blocking heat dome” (traditionally a “typical summer heat wave”), or an above-average number of hurricanes, or spring flooding, or summer droughts, it’s because of man-made global warming. They breathlessly proclaim that we need to pass the Green New Deal or we’re all going to be dead by 2030. Actually, I remember back in the 1970’s that “global cooling” was going to freeze us all to death by the turn of the century if we didn’t spend billions to combat it. Yet, here we are.
And what could be a bigger crisis than the pandemic? In the negotiations for what should be included in the recently passed COVID relief bills, House Majority Whip, James Clyburn (D-SC) said, “This is a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.”
For the left, the ends ALWAYS justify the means.
And so it is with the condo collapse here in Florida. They are using this tragedy as an opportunity to push for a radical legislative agenda that fits their vision for America, even before all the bodies have been recovered.
“The first sign of corruption in a society that is still alive is that the end justifies the means.” -Georges Bernanos
