Optimistic is NOT a word my family uses to describe me. They think I'm a gloom and doom pessimist who always looks at life from the dark side.
But I wouldn't call myself a pessimist. I'm actually very positive--positive that a bunch of crappy things will continue to happen. (They hate that joke...)
Anyway, this past month, as we got closer and closer to the midterm elections, I started to allow myself to believe that the predicted "red tsunami"" would actually happen. I (and I'm guessing you, too) saw a glimmer of hope that the leftist agenda that's wreaking havoc on our country would be completely voted out and its acolytes sent packing. However, as we all know, that "red tsunami" just didn't materialize. And the Democrats and media gloated with headlines like, "Red wave turns into tiny trickle!" and, "Republican red wave becomes a red ripple...and a red flag!"
For millions of us, it was disappointing, to say the least. It felt like a dark cloud was blocking the sun.
But then, as votes were slowly counted, it became apparent that the Republicans had, in fact, gained the majority in the House of Representatives. I came to realize that, even though Republicans didn't win control of the Senate (and only gained a slim majority in the House), there is still a HUGE silver lining hiding in that dark cloud.
And what is that silver lining?
Now that Republicans will control the House, they can put up some roadblocks to stymie Biden’s leftist agenda, even though Democrats maintained control of the Senate.
A Republican-led House of Representatives will be able to:
Draft chamber rules and decide which bills come to the floor for a vote.
Control the nation's spending. The Constitution gives the "power of the purse" – the nation's checkbook – to the House. The Founders believed that this separation of powers would protect against monarchy and provide an important check on the executive branch. So all spending bills and appropriations to government agencies must now pass muster with a Republican majority. (Think border wall, immigration spending, defense spending, education spending, appropriations to agencies like the DOJ, Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, etc.)
Conduct congressional investigations. By effectively controlling the "gavels of committees," they will be able to conduct hearings and subpoena information as they see fit.
Another aspect of the silver lining is that the new GOP-led House has promised to launch sweeping investigations into governmental malfeasance under the Biden administration. Here is a list of investigations already in the works:
Hunter Biden's shady business deals with foreign entities. (Note: On November 17, 2022, House Republicans announced an investigation into Joe Biden and his alleged involvement in business dealings with his son, Hunter.)
Investigation into the TRILLIONS of dollars doled out by the White House for COVID-19 relief; that turned into billions of dollars of government waste, fraud and abuses.
Investigation into Dr. Anthony Fauci for his involvement with the origins of the virus.
Investigation into the administration's secret censorship program.
A probe into the debacle of the Afghanistan withdrawal.
Investigation into the systemic corruption at the FBI.
Investigation into the crisis at the southern border.
In addition to all this good news, here are some other silver linings that we need to remember;
Nancy Pelosi will NOT be the Speaker of the House when the new Congress is seated in January.
Florida turned completely RED--an electoral catastrophe for Democrats.
Conservatives have a majority on the Supreme Court.
Republicans won the overall popular vote by over 4 million votes.
Elon Musk took over Twitter in, what is hopefully, a huge victory for free speech.
Parents are fighting back against the indoctrination of their children in public schools.
The leftist woke agenda is being exposed.
So, even though Joe Biden took a victory lap on foreign soil over the better-than-expected results of the midterms, his Cheshire cat smile may not be there in January when the Republican-led House is in session.
The pessimist in me says we should still be prepared for a LOT of crappy things to continue to happen. But the good news is that we ARE winning. The dam is breaking.
Cheer up, Patriots. There really is a silver lining. It's us. We're getting it done. It's just going to take a bit more time to turn this ship around.

There is no need to go looking for the light when you bring it with you.”
